There are so many types of donuts out there - it’s kind of amazing. Here's a quick rundown of the main types:

🍩 Yeast-Raised Donuts

  • Glazed Donut – Light, airy, and coated with a sweet glaze.

  • Boston Cream – Filled with custard and topped with chocolate icing.

  • Jelly Donut – Filled with jam or jelly, usually sugar-dusted.

  • Maple Bar – Rectangular with maple glaze.

🍩 Cake Donuts

  • Old-Fashioned – Dense with a cracked surface, often glazed.

  • Chocolate Cake – Rich and fudgy, sometimes frosted or powdered.

  • Sour Cream Donut – Slight tang, very moist, usually glazed.

🍩 Specialty/Regional

  • Cronut – Croissant-donut hybrid, flaky and deep-fried.

  • Beignet – French-style donut, square and covered in powdered sugar.

  • Malasada – Portuguese donut, fluffy and often filled or sugared.

  • Sufganiyah – Israeli jelly-filled donut, popular during Hanukkah.

  • Loukoumades – Greek, small honey-soaked balls (like we just talked about!).

  • Churro – Long, ridged, cinnamon-sugar-coated fried dough (Spanish/Mexican).

🍩 Filled or Topped Variants

  • Cream-filled – Bavarian, whipped cream, peanut butter, you name it.

  • Frosted – With sprinkles, chocolate, vanilla, etc.

  • Stuffed – Nutella, matcha cream, cookie dough, etc.
